Class Description

Acrylic pour, also known as acrylic pouring or fluid art, is a captivating painting technique where acrylic paints are mixed with a pouring medium and then poured onto a surface to create unique, abstract, and often marbled designs. This process is popular for its vibrant color blends, cell-like patterns, and unpredictable results.

How Acrylic Pour Works:

Materials Needed:

  • Acrylic paints (various colors)
  • Pouring medium (to thin the paint and help it flow)
  • Canvas or other painting surface
  • Cups and stir sticks
  • Optional: silicone oil (to create “cells”), gloves, drop cloth

Mixing the Paints:

Each color of acrylic paint is mixed separately with the pouring medium, and sometimes a bit of water, until it has a smooth, pourable consistency.
Optional: Add a few drops of silicone oil to some colors to encourage cell formation.
Pouring Techniques:

Dirty Pour: Layer different colors in a cup, then pour all at once onto the surface.
Flip Cup: Place the cup filled with layered paint upside down on the canvas, then lift it to let the paint spread.
Puddle Pour: Pour each color individually in puddles on the canvas.
Swirl, String, or Swipe: Use tools or movements to create specific effects.
Tilting and Manipulating:

Tilt and move the canvas to guide the paint and create interesting patterns and coverage.
Finishing:

Let the painting dry flat for 24–48 hours.
Optionally, seal with a clear varnish to enhance color and protect the surface.
Why Try Acrylic Pour?

No prior painting experience is needed.
Every piece is unique and unpredictable.
Great for experimenting with color and abstract design.
Tips:

Work in a well-ventilated area and protect surfaces from spills.
Wear gloves, as things can get messy!
Start with small canvases to practice.
