Borealis Art Guild
Founded in 2015, Borealis Art Guild exists to celebrate creativity, foster learning, and strengthen community through the arts. Located in the heart of Minnesota’s Iron Range, the Guild serves as both a creative home and a welcoming gathering place for artists, students, and art-lovers of all ages and experience levels.
Mission Statement
Our mission is to inspire, support, and connect artists of all skill levels and backgrounds by fostering a vibrant, inclusive community dedicated to excellence. We provide resources, education, exhibitions, and events that encourage creative growth and public engagement. Our goal is to enrich our community and enhance the cultural vibrancy of Northern Minnesota.
Borealis Art Guild supports a diverse community of Artists working across many Mediums, from traditional to contemporary forms. Through exhibitions, shared studio space, and collaborative opportunities, the Guild provides artists with a platform to create, connect, and share their work with the broader community.
Education is a central part of what we do. Many of our artists also serve as Instructors, offering Classes and workshops designed to build skills, confidence, and creative curiosity. Whether someone is picking up a paintbrush for the first time or continuing a lifelong artistic practice, the Guild strives to make learning approachable, encouraging, and inspiring.
In addition to classes and exhibitions, Borealis Art Guild hosts and participates in Events that bring people together around creativity—celebrations, community gatherings, and opportunities to experience art in meaningful ways. These events help strengthen connections between artists and the community, making art a shared experience rather than something observed from a distance.
Borealis Art Guild also offers its studio space for private event rentals, giving individuals, families, and groups a creative setting for gatherings like birthday parties, painting parties, showers, and other special occasions. It’s a flexible, welcoming space that can be shaped around your vision—whether you want a guided art activity or simply a unique venue with an inspiring atmosphere. Private rentals help bring more people into the Guild and support our ability to keep art thriving in the community.
Each month, Borealis Art Guild highlights three Featured Artists, showcasing their work in a highly visible community setting at Borealis Art Guild studio, the Paulucci Space Theater and Security State Bank. This rotating feature provides artists with an opportunity to share their work with a broader audience while bringing art into a public cultural space. The program celebrates artistic achievement, supports local creatives, and strengthens the connection between the Guild, its artists & students, and the wider community.
Borealis Art Guild is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization governed by its members and led by a board of directors. Members play an active role by voting annually to elect or replace two board members; board terms are four years, ensuring both continuity and fresh perspectives. The board represents the membership and provides overall vision, policy, and financial oversight, while entrusting day-to-day operations to a Director. The Director manages the Guild’s daily activities, programs, and facilities, reporting monthly to the board, and works closely with a small staff and a dedicated group of volunteers to carry out the Guild’s mission and serve the community.
Since its founding, Borealis Art Guild has remained committed to accessibility, inclusion, and the belief that art plays a vital role in community life. Everything we do is guided by a respect for creative expression and a desire to ensure the arts remain vibrant and available for generations to come.
